Already looking like a great year for films, 2019 has some of the most exciting movies lined up. Everything from Gully Boy, Student Of The Year 2 to Bharat and Brahmastra – there’s so much to look forward to. Here we have picked the top 10 most awaited films of the year. Take a look…
1. Gully Boy
Starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead, this Zoya Akhtar directorial has got us super excited. The film stars Ranveer Singh as a rapper in the film and it’s for the first time we will see him romancing Alia. Just today film’s lead stars and makers released a new poster of Singh, which said, ‘Apna Time Aayega’. The film is slated for February 14 and we already can’t keep calm.
2. Brahmastra
For the first time ever, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan are coming together for a film and it sure has to be big and special. Helmed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar, the film also stars Akkineni Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy in important roles. For the longest time, Alia and Ranbir were in Bulgaria shooting for the film and we can’t wait to see this real life couple creating magic on the big screen as well. Speaking about the film, Ranbir had earlier said, “It is actually a supernatural romantic fairy tale at heart. Ayan will never make a character that doesn’t have truth to it, or which is unbelievable. It’s too early to talk about the film, but it is something I am terribly excited about.” Brahmastra will hit the theatres on Christmas this year.
3. Kalank
Set in the 1940s, this epic drama has a stellar star cast. The film features Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt. Directed by Abhishek Varman, Kalank has been making noise ever since its announcement. Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt have been sharing updates from the sets of the film and it has made it difficult for us to wait for it. Earlier Sridevi was to star in the film and it was post her untimely demise when Madhuri Dixit was roped in. The film will be released on April, 19.
4. Bharat
Anticipated as one of the biggest films of the year, Ali Abbas Zafar's Bharat stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead. Also featuring in the film are Disha Patani, Sunil Grover, Jackie Shroff and Nora Fatehi in interesting roles. Bharat is an official remake of Korean film, Ode To My Father and is scheduled for June 5 release.
5. Student Of The Year 2
Marking the debuts of Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria alongside Tiger Shroff is Punit Malhotra’s Student Of The Year 2. The film is a sequel to Dharma Productions 2012 release which starred Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra in the lead. Interestingly, SOTY 2 will also feature Aditya Seal in a pivotal role, while Will Smith too makes a special appearance. With the immense buzz around it, we just can’t wait for the film. Student Of The Year 2 will be out in theatres on May 10 this year.
6. Saaho
Starring Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead, Saaho marks the Hindi film debut of the Baahubali star. It’s for the first time that the duo will be coming together on the big screen. The film also stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Jackie Shroff and Chunkey Panday.
7. Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi
Get ready to see queen Kangana Ranaut in a never seen before avatar as she will be seen in and as The Queen of Jhansi in her next. The historical drama has been making headlines time and again for various reasons and it’s with this film that Kangana debuts as a director too. Scheduled for January 25 release, Manikarnika also stars Ankita Lokhande and Zeeshan Ayyub in important roles.
8. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga
For the first time ever, father-daughter duo Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja are coming together for a film. Helmed by Shelly Chopra, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga will be first of its kind mainstream Indian film to showcase love between two women. If the reports are to be believed, South star Regina Cassandra will be playing Sonam’s love interest in the film. The film also stars Juhi Chawla, Rajkummar Rao, and Akshay Oberoi. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga hits the screens on February 1.
9. Junglee
Gearing up for a big release this year is actor Vidyut Jammwal who will be next seen in Junglee. The film is being helmed by American filmmaker and writer Chuck Russell and features the star doing some kick-ass action and stunts. In Junglee, Vidyut will be seen as a veterinarian who on his homecoming to his father’s elephant reserve, encounters and fights an international poaching racket. Produced by Vineet Jain, Junglee is slated for its release on April 5, 2019.
10. Kesari
A period drama starring Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra in the lead, Kesari is one of the most anticipated films of the year. Ready to win one and all, Khiladi Kumar will be seen as Havildar Ishwar Singh, who leads the troop of Sikh soldiers in the British army to battle against the Pashtun Orazkai tribesmen. Parineeti Chopra plays his love interest in the film and she recently shared her look from the film. Directed by Anurag Singh, Kesari releases on March 21.
11. Good News
Packing a punch with his second film in the year, Akshay Kumar will be seen opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan in Karan Johar’s Good News. Slated for July 19 release this year, co-starring Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani, the film revolves around a Punjabi married couple trying to have a baby. Interestingly, Kiara and Diljit already kick-started the shoot of the film in November last year and will soon be joined by Bebo and Akshay.
12. Kabir Singh
A remake of Telugu film, Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh is Shahid Kapoor’s next big release. The film stars Kiara Advani as the female lead and is said to be a romantic drama. Talking about film’s plot, a source close to the film earlier told a daily, “The protagonist is a Punjabi like Shahid who is best suited for the part because he emulates both power and vulnerability.” Shahid’s character gets into a self-destruction mode after his girlfriend marries another man. Kabir Singh will be in the cinemas on June 21.
13. Super 30
In news for all the right reasons, Super 30 is a film based on the life of mathematician Anand Kumar. With Hrithik Roshan playing the lead and romancing debutant and TV actress Mrunal Thakur, there’s a lot of craze in fans to watch this fresh pairing. For those of you who don’t know, Anand Kumar is the founder of Super 30, an educational programme where 30 meritorious students from low-income backgrounds are chosen and trained to get into the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
14. Mission Mangal
Touted as one of the biggest releases of the year, Mission Mangal comes with a stellar star cast including Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sharman Joshi, Sonakshi Sinha, Kriti Kulhari and Nithya Menon. Jointly produced by Fox Star Studios and Cape Of Good Films, Mission Mangal is going to be India’s first space film. A proud story of India’s Mars mission, the film is slated to release on August 15.
15. Hrithik Roshan – Tiger Shroff untitled film
All set to come together for Siddharth Anand’s next untitled film are Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff. Even though much is not revealed about the project yet, it’s said it will be packed with some high-octane action sequences. Tiger, who’s a big fan of Hrithik Roshan, shared that the film will be in cinemas on October 2. A visual and action spectacle, the film stars Roshan playing Shroff’s guru.
